Denmark's a Prison
Mar. 29th, 2012 11:52 amThe three old chums meet. Hamlet pretends that he has some trouble distinguishing Rosencrantz from Guldenstern, but this is an inside joke, playing off the general difficulty people have telling one from the other, as though they are twins.
My excellent good friends! How dost thou,
Guildenstern? Ah, Rosencrantz!
Hamlet, if only for a precious moment, loses his dour mood and his dark meditations, finding himself suddenly thrown back on the joy of old friends and good times, recalling the mood when the world was young and innocent, or when he was anyway. The three roughhouse and pummel each other. After this “puppyish brawl” Hamlet resumes the dialogue:
Good lads, how do ye both?
Which kicks off a bit of ribald drollery:

March 17, 1991
Mar. 29th, 2012 04:57 pmLast Friday I became excited over a classified ad that gave notice of a career seminar for postal jobs ($22,000 - $45,000). I also got Jack interested. And I got Mother to give me a short haircut. I shaved.
Thanks to the heavy rain on Saturday, Jack and I spent some time trying to learn more about the value of attending, since we were resigned to taking a cab if we were to go, which would have converted a free seminar into a risky fifty-dollar investment.
We timely learned that I can still believe in getting something from nothing. I guess it runs in the family whether genetically or environmentally.

I remember, though I am conflating this post office business with the plan to get a position at the... something about the Commerce lobby, which was an even bigger joke, not to mention showing up at a meeting for the Dallas police department.
These entries are so painful, making me sick to my gut. I was hoping to get some warmer memories of Jack, but I don’t see it happening. Did I not remark on our chess games and our outings to the movies or the mall?
I was thinking about leaving these early-1991 entries behind for a while, but I see a couple of more interesting ones directly ahead. So, I'll stick with it for now.

"Deadgirl"
Mar. 29th, 2012 10:07 pmPop finished watching "Deadgirl". He apparently liked it. I'm a little surprised. I would like to have it in my DVD collection. It is nice to see a movie do justice to the full male-reality, rather than the usual politically correct fare.
It's a one-week rental, and I think I will watch it again. I did pay for it, and I am hurting a little in terms of DVDs and fun stuff to watch. I find my interest in "The Sopranos" waning, though I am not quitting it, for now.
