one of those Senior Tours
Oct. 9th, 2012 11:18 amPop went off on one of those Senior Tours, this one to Fredericksburg. I take the laptop to my room to spend some quality time with some ASSTR stories. Sadly, xnxx.com no longer seems to get any hot sexvids, not even chikan videos.
When I was done, I naturally felt bad about wasting so much time, and before looking at the clock to see exactly how much time was spent in adolsecent wankery, I decided to make a game of it and to guess what time it was. I said, "10:10!"
I wasn't even close. It was 11:10! Two hours, fuck!
Heh, well, at least it is out of my system, right? And now that the sweatiness is evaporating, maybe I won't need another shower after all, though I do have a library trip tomorrow...

my little list of 'wanna read' books
Oct. 9th, 2012 04:14 pmI'm cranking up my little list of 'wanna read' books for my library trip tomorrow. In doing this I realize that I should not get worked up about what to get, because there is no way that I will ever even come close to reading all that I would like to read, not if I had another twenty years. For instance, thanks to my George Orwell reading, I have felt a strong urge to tackle Swift's "Gulliver's Travels". No reader cannot have that under his belt, right? But that's alright. There are a lot of books like that.
So, I'm using my automatic, impersonal book-selection program, just calling up random books from the lists that I have generated at GoodReads.com, with the understanding that there is an extra funnel that my choices must work through during library season, which is that the library must have the books available, without my having to use interlibrary loans. In exchange for having to go through this extra funnel, at least the books are free, and I can eat my chicken fried rice in peace.

Roman Polanski
Oct. 9th, 2012 04:26 pm
The former teen whom Roman Polanski was convicted of having sex with — leading to one of Hollywood's most notorious scandals and the director's flight from the U.S. — is writing a memoir.
Samantha Geimer, now 47, has a deal with Atria Books for "The Girl: Emerging from the Shadow of Roman Polanski." Atria, a Simon & Schuster imprint, announced Tuesday that the book will come out next fall.

Is there a real demand for that, aside from a few dozen rabid feminists? I don't suppose she will go into the delicate details of the rape. A Polanski memoir should garner more readers, especially if he would go more Humbert Humbert with us.
I came across another item on Poe, and it occurred to me that, instead of Casanova's memoir's, I could be tackling some of his short stories. The thing is, I am rather enjoying the memoirs, though not so much that I could not stand to leave them aside again for another spell.
I'm not sure which is the better use of my reading time. Fiction is delicious, but I do like Casanova's flourished writing style and the fact that it is at least based on real life and real history, and it is not really boring me and it is working even for my nighttime reading, which, one should recall, has to be all about the fun. But might not Poe be more fun?
Hmmm... I think I should get some more Poe under my belt and try a story or two. We'll have to do to that tonight.

He stumbled and fell
Oct. 9th, 2012 06:46 pmPop called. I thought it was getting a bit late for his return from his tour. He stumbled and fell and it sounds like he badly injured his eye. He used the word 'fractured'. They are taking him to BAMC for specialized treatment. But he also says that he will only be late in his return tonight. I should have asked what this means for his vision, but maybe that is yet to be determined.
Californication
Oct. 9th, 2012 09:36 pm"Californication" is still going on?
I remember when I had high hopes after the first few episodes of its first season all those years ago, but then it became clear that it was going to go with the flow of feminist political-correctness, which is deadly for a show that is essentially just about men and women and sex, at least as far as I am concerned. Of course this is the way the world is turning, and I am simply left behind in the 1970s, I guess, when men were men and women just took it.

Poe is not going to work
Oct. 9th, 2012 10:25 pmPoe is not going to work for the late-night reading. His stories are very drily executed. This is not to deny that a few of them are worth reading, such as that "Red Death" one, but it is for the daytime when we have all our brain cells humming rather than petering out at eleven o'clock at night. So, it is back to Casanova!
