monk111: (Cats)
Late night cat drama. I was up for one of my can't-sleep midnight reading sessions and feeding the cats, and that orange cat was around and hungry. It cried for hunger and, in the dark, I thought it was Ash. The cat happily and desperately ate, and I felt inclined to let it be. I even took the opportunity to try to pet it, and it let me. Although the cat is obviously not feral, I get a sick feeling over how careless I am, placing myself in jeopardy with an unknown, starving cat, as if my exprience with Scratches was not enough of an education in the value of being wary of strange cats.

However, the orange cat then made an unforgivable mistake. When Ash came and approached the plate, the orange cat got in attack mode. I ran to the closet to get the baseball bat and my shoes, and it was goodbye to Orangey.

In thinking about this episode, one thought has been teasing me: could Orangey be Calico's kitten? The one I actually began socializing, with the rest of Calico's litter, before the neighbors made off with the kittens, leaving Calico's teats full of milk that would never be suckled.

That was some years ago. It was before Ash and Willy's time. And it was a very brief affair. Still, Orangey even made one attempt to dash inside the house, as though she were familiar with being inside the house already. But could there be this kind of familiarity three or four years after the fact?? I doubt it, but I still wonder. In any case, my loyalty must rest with Coco, Ash, and Sammy, and there is no real question about this.
