Eleven-something! Kentucky Fried Chicken. Did they raise the prices? I think that is about a buck higher than the last time I ate there a month ago. Well, it was worth it.

I wonder if my library season is effectively over already. It's very early, of course, and I can see myself wanting to take another dive for free books in March or thereabouts, before the summer hits hard, but I am not sure I am that interested in the hassle of taking the bus downtown, especially if, like now, I know what I want to read and don't want to pick a random book and depend on what the library has on its shelves.

Speaking of books that I want to read, the UPS man came when I was in the middle of my journal entry, and I will definitely begin my fiction-weekend early. This was my hope, since I just finished a chapter in the "Alexander Hamilton" biography yesterday and thought this was a good breaking point, affording me the opportunity to put in a long 'weekend' with "Middlemarch" and get a good start on this mammoth novel.

This is one of those novels that every English-speaker who likes to think of himself as a serious reader really has to read. This will be my first time with Mary Ann Evans (A.K.A. George Eliot). I am blushing like a virgin. I hope she does not take it easy on me. I am looking to enjoy this.

Reading isn’t the opposite of doing. It’s the opposite of dying.

I was checking out a Twitter account, and, again, while I was there, I felt the compulsion to see what Sugar is tweeting. It was a pretty disappointing batch of tweets, just the normal hum of friends touching base, nothing witty or exciting or sexy. At least I do not feel tempted to resume stalking her again. It is enough for me to dwell on the past, when we shared an e-life.

Egypt is in an uproar again, as it looks like the country will be falling under another dictatorship. Shouldn't we have just kept Mubarak in power? At least we seemed to have an understanding with him, and now we have this more-Islamist-seeming guy.

President Morsi announced a meeting to take place Saturday with the opposition. He blamed the violence on paid agents of unnamed forces wishing to destroy the country. He said an investigation was under way to bring those forces to justice. He warned against further violent unrest, saying it would not be tolerated. He listed numerous targets that must not be attacked, including government buildings and institutions. The list of verboten behavior included, to the mirth of many listeners, blocking traffic. He said the referendum on the constitution would proceed as planned. He seemed willing to discuss his decree of unchecked power – but he defended it as part of his duty as president to defend Egypt's "sovereignty."
