According to Mr. Porter’s narrative, Marilyn has been threatening the Kennedys, demanding that Jack at least call her and talk with her. She gets her wish. They are talking on the phone, and it sounds like she just wanted some attention and appreciation, and that everything should have been fine, at least as far as the Kennedys are concerned. However, this of course may be a concoction of pure fantasy, as this phone conversation is premised on tapes that no one knows anything about.

We are familiar with the reality that to be online is to voluntarily subject oneself to an Orwellian surveillance state, but as it has been a while since we last touched on the issue, and this is a good summary of the situation, let's go another round.

monk111: (Cats)
It was Orangey. I thought it was the neighbor dog, but it was Orangey yowling. I guess she knows that the food is there on the patio, but she is psychologically blocked from coming to the plate - unless our cats are actually putting up a fight. All three cats were poised there on the edge of the patio, watching her, but I have a hard time believing that they were ready to jump her.

I actually stepped out to try to make contact with Orangey. She doesn’t trust me, though. I guess running after her with a bat a couple of times will do that to a relationship. Nevertheless, I doubt that it is wise to try to invite her back. The parasites she must be hosting! In addition to the threat of fights and injuries. When it comes to veterinary care, the only thing we are financially good for is euthanasia.

I just don’t know. And I am not in control. I am only reactive here, responding to what the cats do. So passive and useless. The story of my life.

I remember how friendly Orangey was, so open to being petted, and I imagine she was a very loved pet once, and probably knew what it was to live in the comfort of a home with a loving family. But something happened that left her out and alone. Maybe the family moved but could not take along a pet. The thought makes one sadder yet. Much worse is the thought that Orangey was one of the kittens stolen from us, from Calico’s litter, that Orangey knew what it was to be inside our kitchen when she was still the tiniest kitten.

PolitiCartoons is not sending me my comment notifications. The one community that I have been making a bid to be active in, and this happens. It’s like Someone is sending me a message: that I should be doing something else with my life. But what?? The question becomes more meaningless with each passing year.
