Gather ye Rose-buds while ye may,
Old Time is still a flying:
And this same flower that smiles to day,
To morrow will be dying.

The glorious Lamp of Heaven, the Sun,
The higher he’s a getting;
The sooner will his Race be run,
And nearer he’s to Setting.

That Age is best, which is the first,
When Youth and Blood are warmer;
But being spent, the worse, and worst
Times, still succeed the former.

Then be not coy, but use your time;
And while ye may, goe marry:
For having lost but once your prime,
You may for ever tarry.

-- “To the Virgins, to Make Much of Time” by Robert Herrick

In the general movement to go more natural and organic, one did not think about how this would influence the use of birth control. It probably should not be a surprise that more and more women do not care to fill themselves with synthetic hormones. But I would never have thought that the pull-out method would become popular again.

These women describe a deliberate transition from the pill to the pullout. They buy organic kale and all-natural cleaning products, and so can’t quite get down with taking synthetic hormones every day. They are more driven by sexual pleasure — they see orgasms as a right, not a privilege — and hate the feel of condoms. They wouldn’t call themselves porn aficionados or anything, but they don’t think it’s demeaning to have a man come on them.

-- Ann Friedman, "No Pill? No Prob. Meet the Pullout Generation" in New York Magazine

This entails a greater reliance on abortions, but let's leave that can of worms standing for now.
