“My god!” The plate is empty. Maybe it was Orangey. Maybe that poor cat got lucky and struck the mother lode. I can live with that. Maybe I kind of hoped for it.

I put the plate out last night, because I intended to let the cats stay outside. However, the cats opted to come inside for the night instead, and that works for me, especially since they have gone back to being fairly quiet in the night. My bladder kept me up more. The plate was still pretty full this morning when I left on my walk. It is when I returned home that I was surprised.

Realism is another key Orwellian factor. One reason why he hated the Americanization of English culture was because it falsified reality. Looking through an American fashion magazine he notices that there are no references to grey hairs, fatness, middle age or death. Everything is subsumed into a fake world of eternal glamour. His own course was exactly the opposite, to strip off polish and give life back its actuality and miscellaneousness.
