Winter Snap
Jan. 23rd, 2014 06:00 pm37 degrees and it is not yet eight o’clock in the evening. Tomorrow’s high is not expected to rise beyond the thirties. This weather is why today was such a broken day.
Things started going off the rails at around twelve. I was setting up for lunch when Pop comes into the big room to relate what Lorie had told him over the phone: that a bad winter storm is fast heading our way. I thought he was going to say that we should fill our water jugs before things get sleety and icy. Instead, he suggested that we might want to get our groceries today instead of tomorrow. I told him that grocery day is not until next week. This is a three-weeker. He begs to differ. I say we should take a look at the calendar. I was wrong. I am the one who somehow misread the calendar.
I had to make the grocery list from scratch, but we were off to the races at a little after two. Although all went smoothly, it wrecked my daily routine. Even worse, somewhere along the way, I wrenched my back, and now I am struggling a little with that. This winter snap, while it’s the worst of the year, is expected to be very short-lived, warming up on Saturday. It has been a lot of fuss for very little. It is too bad that this was not a three-weeker. It would have saved us a lot of trouble. But it’s done, it’s done, it’s done.
