The rain did come through last night I guess it was more than a shower, but I don't know if it really breaks the drought - all these little rains. However, it promises to keep the chilly weather with us a little longer. Which is great, but I am going to have to put the ceiling fan back into winter mode.

Ah, that’s why Maureen Dowd hasn’t been at her post at the Times! Although time moves relentlessly on, she still writes with a certain girlish charm.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I’D been hoping to get the flu.

I hadn’t had it in years, and there were so many TV series I’d never seen — “The Wire,” “Breaking Bad,” “House of Cards,” “True Detective” — that required an extended convalescence.

When I finally succumbed to a fever and crumpled in bed a couple of weeks ago with saltines and Gatorade, I grabbed the clicker, murmuring, “Alright, alright, alright.” The only celebrated series I had no interest in was “Game of Thrones.”

She gave "Thrones" a shot and fell heels behind head in love with the escapist show. She writes so passionately of it that I may have to give it a shot. I think it's on HBO Go, if I can come up with our old password. I understand there are a lot of boobs bared in those wars.

It is not too wet outside, and with the cats wrestling and racing around the house, I decided to let them go. There is no rain in the forecast, but it still feels chancey, because the sky is still heavily overcast and looks like it wants to drop a load.

Bateman is in bed with Luis’s girlfriend. It seems to be a common ethic. Tim is laying Bateman’s girlfriend, after all. They are all good, well-moneyed people, and are as good as interchangeable parts in the dimly lit bedroom.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

After lying there on separate sides of the bed for what might be twenty minutes with Courtney whimpering about Luis and antique cutting boards and the sterling silver cheese grater and muffin tin she left at Harry’s, she then tries to give me head. “I want to fuck you again,” I tell her, “but I don’t want to wear a condom because I don’t feel anything,” and she says calmly, taking her mouth off my limp shrunken dick, glaring at me, “If you don’t use one you’re not going to feel anything anyway.”

-- “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis

The sex never seems to be very satisfying with these upper-class ice-princesses, and one can imagine, as another piece of dark comedy, that this is one of the forces that drive Bateman’s psychopathic murderousness toward his inferior women victims, with whom he can do absolutely anything he wants and however he wants it.

Cats

There are Coco and Sammy, outside, sitting down on the driveway, just staring about. Most likely, they are working up their confidence to venture forth into the broader neighborhood. As always there are a lot of dogs and mean kids. They worry me a little. They must be good at what they do, as it has been quite a number of years now, but they lose a lot of their advantage to trek about in the light of day. Usually, they don't do this anymore, but I guess they are feeling restless after being kept in the house for the past couple of nights. Ash is happy to stay inside with me, even though she is giving me a bit of a headache with her constant meows and demands for my attention.

Adolf Hitler may have "unwittingly" married a Jewish woman when he wed his mistress, Eva Braun, hours before his death in 1945, at least according to a new documentary.

-- Huffington Post

This eye-opening conclusion is based on newly conducted DNA testing of hair taken from a hairbrush that supposedly belonged to Eva. It was found in one of Hitler's residences at the end of World War Two, and the initials E.B. are monogrammed on it. I am skeptical, but the story is too good to pass up.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Hitler met Braun in 1929 at the shop of his personal photographer, Heinrich Hoffmann, according to Eva Braun: Life With Hitler by German historian Heike B. Görtemaker. She was 17 years old at the time; he was 40. "Hitler had her family investigated for Jewish taint," the New York Times noted. She was determined to be of pure Aryan descent.

They married on April 29, 1945, in his Berlin bunker. On April 30, 1945, after hearing about the assassination of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, Hitler and Braun committed suicide. Their bodies were burned.
