A nine-thirty breakfast. Not good. I did not want to get out of bed. I was just going to have cashew peanuts and an apple, what I used to eat when I would return from a morning walk. However, I remembered that Pop bought some bananas, and I wouldn't want those to go to waste. So, cereal, orange juice, and bananas it is.

"Mr. President, you are not a king, and Texans bow to no one."

-- Todd Staples, Texas agricultural commissioner

Mark Binelli, the Rolling Stone guy who gave us that nice essay on Pope Francis, has a nice piece on how right-wing extremists got a firm hold of Texas politics. Remember, not long ago there was some fond speculation that Texas might become a swing state, if not go outright blue and Democratic, but it has instead become redder than ever.

Trying to knock out my toilet before lunch. If I wait till this afternoon, it might never get done. I do not want to let this rare opportunity pass me by.

Here I am trying to do my chores, cleaning up a little, and I keep shedding my hair everywhere. I have been looking for a good opportunity to cut my hair since the middle of June, but the stars keep from lining up right. Now I see that I am going to have to get serious about it and forget about astrology. Maybe I’ll knock it out this week.

It looks like I’m going to get another shot to record “I Spit On Your Grave”. It must not have been a mistake to air it, and uncensored. Funny, though, I haven’t seen a flood of similar movies circulating on the cable channels. If this one can come into our living rooms, why cannot anything, practically speaking?

One of the problems with dozing in bed so much is that when you do get up, you feel so woozy and drowsy, as weak as a kitten, like an elderly hospital patient who is somewhat sedated.

It’s a problem.

However, coming out of my afternoon nap, I took a shower, and I was reminded of an old lesson: if you want to feel fully awakened, take a quick shower! For the full shock treatment, let the water run cold on you. It does not make me a Sampson, but at least I shake off that sedated feeling.

Since it looked a little cloudy and moderate outside, I let the cats go early. They were so good last night, all nice and quiet, even Sammy.

Sammy still goes to mother's plum tree to sharpen his nails a little.
