A new book is out on the historic peace agreement between Israel and Egypt, forged by President Carter. I am still in the opening chapters, but it is safe to say that this will be recognized as a classic work. Mr. Douthat gives us a good opportunity to catch up on our affairs in Iraq and Syria, striking that almost perfect note of disillusionment and near hopelessness. We keep feeding our enemies and dig ourselves deeper into the quagmire that is the Middle East.
