Here is an interesting article whose thesis is that the war against pornography is effectively lost, even if it is unlikely that defeat will ever be conceded. Though, I am afraid that so long as Republicans can win the White House, victory celebrations may be premature.

“I feel sorry for someone who believes this stuff is corrupting society, because they would have to now say, ‘society has been corrupted.’”

-- Nadine Strossen

“The Internet simply overwhelmed the law.”

-- David M. O’Brien, First Amendment scholar and University of Virginia professor

DePaul’s Carolyn Bronstein pointed out that for those men “already given to aggressive behavior,” violent porn “can tend to increase their likelihood to act violently.” But, she said, while anti-pornography activists in the 1980s very much hoped “to prove that watching porn would lead your average man to rape, nobody’s ever been able to establish that.”

The thunder is cranking up now. No worries. I have the cats in the house. It has been a little while since I have had them with me like this. Though, after only an hour, I am kind of missing the peace and quiet. Love is funny like that.

0900

That really is a hard rain. I am wondering if it is the hardest this year.

I really fucking hate cleaning my toilet.

“You hate cleaning anything. You aren’t even over fond of bathing.”

I just want to read and bury myself in words and dreamy phrases, to lose myself in something grander than my meager life.

“It is too bad you could not find a way to make that pay.”

It is not my fault that I have so little talent for it.

Cats

Oh, man, I am so tempted to let the cats out. Taking care of the trash this evening, I see that the grounds are not marshy. After this morning’s rains, I was expecting more damage. In truth, although it rained hard, it did not rain long, and we were running drought-dry. Oh, hell, I am going to let the cats go. They are already crying and getting on my nerves, and I would love a good night’s sleep.
