I don’t know why teachers are afraid of the experience of the poem . . .

Well, because it would be like passing out drugs in class, I imagine.

Poetry is a high. It is a thrill. If people were taught to read poetry in the right way, they would find it extremely pleasurable.

I think they are talking about something that cannot really be taught, and you also probably have to be a little old to experience poetry very deeply. I suspect you must also know the pain of life and feel a little hunger for death, with the desire to experience the beauty of this tragic life before you do die. But I am just guessing.
