When I returned from the bathroom this evening, I saw that my aquarium video had ended and switched to a video on chirping birds, real big close-ups of your regular neighborhood fat gray birds. I had never seen this video before and I was a little surprised by the high-definition reality of the scene, so that it took me a moment to notice that I was not the only one beguiled by the show. All three cats were in front of the TV meowing grievously. Sammy and Ash were on their hind legs, squalling in hungered agony. They were even looking around the TV trying to figure out what is going on. Where are these birds? What sort of fiendish witchery is this? I panicked. I was sure they were going to leap at the TV and have it come crashing down at any moment, as I raced to switch the video and shooed the cats away.
"I'm going to sit outside for a few minutes and enjoy the air," Pop said as he poured himself a glass of wine, which he lately seems to have come to prefer over beer. After those extended winter rains, it does feel like spring has broken out. The air really is nice - fresh and a little invigorating - though one winces at the thought of summer coming fast around.
Goddamnit, that is some heavily painted meat. So sickly dark inside. I am preparing my hamburger patties before I freeze them. The commissary has been very good with its meat for a goodly while, but ... I'm worrying again. The meat does not smell bad at all, but maybe they learned how to fake that as well. What can I do? I am going to assume it is okay, and I will just take note if I start to become ill as I eat my way through it.
