Stephen King
Sep. 3rd, 2015 04:02 pmInteresting. Stephen King has a column in the Times that seems to try to explain his profligacy, that to be wildly prolific is not necessarily to be lacking in literary merit. It's actually not such a new line for him. He has been an advocate for some time for greater literary appreciation for pop-novelists. You might think that he would be happy with the money and the fame, over and beyond being a 'real writer' - a very nice status to have in today's world (to which many people fondly aspire and dream of, in the same way that teenagers dream of becoming rock stars).

As a young man, my head was like a crowded movie theater where someone has just yelled “Fire!” and everyone scrambles for the exits at once. I had a thousand ideas but only 10 fingers and one typewriter. There were days — I’m not kidding about this, or exaggerating — when I thought all the clamoring voices in my mind would drive me insane.

He is probably telling the truth, or something close enough to it. Maybe he is just one of the Chosen, the gifted. He is definitely more than a blogger. He is a Somebody on the world stage. And he really is a writer.
