The quotation is more striking for the fact that Kristol is a leading Republican. Yet, he has also been a staunch voice and activist for the 'never Trump' movement in the party, a fight that was apparently lost last night during the party's first convention night. The convention incidentally was as different as it should have been. The Republicans have long had an only somewhat latent platform of white supremacy, but never before was there such harping on fear and minorities - calling on the strong man, Trump, to make America great/safe/American/white again. I still find it hard to believe that this republic is actually taking this dark turning. However, Americans have been crying for 'change, real change' for a long time, and you have to wonder if maybe this is what they meant all along.
