reading life
Dec. 4th, 2011 09:55 amI finished Book One of "IQ84" last night. The original plan was to break away and read Dickens's "Christmas Carol", which I intended to make a yearly tradition but have yet to repeat since I first got the book, probably for the Christmas of 2004. But I am holding off on Dickens's book again. I also wanted to take back up into my loose reading some exegetical works, and so I have taken up those books that Susanna got me on "Magic Mountain" and "Lolita", and I want to read an essay from each of those. I also want to include "The Masks of Hamlet" in my loose reading, in installments, and if those essays prove too fast a read, I may start that before resuming Murakami's work.

Dec. 4th, 2011 10:44 amPop reacts strongly to Princess's yelps of pain. We go to the vet at nine-thirty in the evening on an emergency basis. Yes, Monk is right. She needs an ear-cleaner and to avoid table scraps. They just cannot appreciate Monk's intelligence and acquired knowledge.

I think the was from Mother feeding her pizza. If I am not mistaken, we even took Bo with us. The entry also reminds me of that black gunk that Princess had in her ears, too, which is a problem that I think stuck with us for a while. As far as the practice of feeding Princess scraps go, I think Mother at least held off on feeding her pizza anymore, which is an improvement.

a soggy, wintry day
Dec. 4th, 2011 03:18 pmCowboys have the late-afternoon game. I am back to the other side of the house, my room and the office. Before coming to the office and Pop's computer, I hear the howl of the winds outside and am remided that it is not only wet but cold, a soggy, wintry day. Temperatures are expected to drop to around the freezing mark for a string of nights now. I hope the cats can cope and won't make like harder on us.

Dec. 4th, 2011 04:16 pmMonk goes along with Mother and Pop for late-night window shopping at the BX. We look at computers. Although it is most unlikely that they ever would get one, Monk did feel some fear while looking over the computers and accessories, afraid that he never would get it to work: a very expensive chromatic harmonica.

I remember this, too. I have even thought that this may have been a time when Mother's shrink, Dr. B., may have been on the scene, wanting to observe our primate-protagonist, being like a child hoping to get a toy from his parents.

a providence
Dec. 4th, 2011 08:55 pmTook out the trash. Man, that is true winter. I couldn't see Neighbor dog through the slats of the fence. I pray he is inside the house.
I was thinking that it is for this kind of weather that I would be taking out my big winter coat, so that I can stay outside with Bo for ten minutes or say while he takes care of business. Then I come inside and see all three cats milling about, wondering what I am doing and why they cannot go out too. I cannot help but feel a providence that these cats should have come into our lives just as we were losing Bo.
