Isn't that special?! I do not care to comment much about this sort of thing anymore. I am almost fifty. I get it, finally. Life is not fair. I get it.

Dec. 3rd, 2011 11:38 amJack and Jill show off her mini-screen word-processor. They left it out with her english paper on "Don Quixote". It did invoke memories of academic life. I wonder whether her work is arousing Jack's intellect.

I remember. She had hopes of becoming a school teacher, and it is a shame that she was not able to carry that off. She is certainly smart enough, and has a great temperament for the position. Though, I do not know if she is particularly book smart. I would not be shocked if she never carried the grades in high school, for instance. Maybe she is actually a lot like Jack in that respect.

Dec. 3rd, 2011 04:31 pmMother and Pop discuss how Jack wants a computer, and Pop says he is interested in one, too, but they are concerned that it's difficult to operate. Monk bursts out that he could get it to work. It kills him to think that he could be that close to one of his dreams. It probably will go nowhere.

I surprise myself. I always remembered myself arguing that computers are over our heads, both financially and intellectually. To be sure, I always wanted one, even if I wasn't sure what could be done with them, but I assumed it was a bridge too far, or I thought I did.
It amuses me to think that, if we had gotten a computer or two, the experience might have soured our notions about computers and the Internet. In 1995, I don't think there was much to them, at least in terms of what is available in the most user-friendly ways. For instance, LiveJournal and blogger-friendly sites don't come online for another few years. There is no such thing as YouTube. Was Google born yet? But who knows...
