the cats

There was a bit of drizzle overnight. Nothing to be excited and anxious about. Though, I would prefer to have the cats inside. But Coco and Sammy are great, dozing the morning away on the lounge chair, which is probably the best possible option available to them. Ash is with me in the big room lying down on the bed, which is perhaps the second best option.

Pop got some more of those candies that I call peanut patties. A round brick of reddish-colored candy with a lot of peanuts embedded in it. He asked if I wanted some and I declined. I don’t trust my teeth to be up to that kind of challenge anymore. In a rare reminiscence, he also says, “I used to eat them when I was a little kid.” I hold back from saying, “They were Mother’s favorites.” One of her favorites. I know that Pop does not care for mentions of Mother and reminders of that time. I can appreciate the ambivalence, but she was such a major part of our lives, it seems almost self-destructive to try to block all that out, for better and worse, and there was certainly some good in it, at least as much good as any of us brought to the table.

Yeah, I am missing her a little today. I wonder what she would make of all our gadget-toys - laptops and Kindles. Though, I doubt the Internet would have interested her any, which suggests some of the oddness about her. She would still prefer to sit on the patio and smoke her cigarettes. I don’t suppose that I would really want to know what she liked to think about during all that time. But I am still missing her.

I finished "North Dallas Forty" this afternoon. Talk about a surprise ending!

It also hit me that I could knock out my library trip tomorrow, and thus freeing me from having to fit that chore in on grocery week and around pizza day, as well as a mow that I need to get done.

Pop said okay. But then I realized that I need to clean my toilet, and the tub is very bad too. It's late and I'm on it. I'm just looking to make things looks somewhat passable.
