monk111: (Primal Hunger)
Coming home from my morning jog, I see a city or county crew is busy fixing a pipe, and I knew it then. And I was right. No water. But, first, there was a delicious bit of cruelty. A note was on the door saying that the water would be shut off at nine-thirty, and I saw that it was only nine-twenty. I thought I might have a chance yet to squeeze in a shower after my run. But, no, the water was off.

It wasn’t as bad as I first thought. I was able to use our water jugs to give the better part of my body a decent wetting and drying. I definitely still need that shower, but I don’t feel terribly uncomfortable waiting for the water to come on, which may be a few hours, I’m sorry to say.

The laptop seems to have regained its former quirkiness: not coming back on when I flip the lid up. When the laptop was still new, it had picked up this hissy fit, and then, surprisingly, it seemed to effectively disappear for months. But not gone forever apparently. Now I feel like I have a two in three chance of being able to return to my programs without having to reboot the whole system and repeating all of those log-ins.

I forgot that the elephant ears did not get their drink this morning because of the water shut-off. I should have taken care of that when the water came on at eleven-thirty, but I was so anxious to beat Pop to the shower that it slipped my mind. The ears were pretty beaten down this afternoon in this 100-degree heat, but they were standing better than I thought they would. I thought they would all be completely flat on the ground, a condition in which we have seen them when Mother was here and taking care of them, not appreciating how much water these plants require. We seem to be okay.
