This morning was a bit more chilly than usual, with temperatures in the mid-fifties, but when I stepped outside to get the newspaper and better sample the autumn air, I definitely wanted to go on my walk. So clear and brisk, invigorating. But I knew that I would need to go out in sweats, but that is fine. I prefer this to being hot and sweaty, especially since I no longer look upon this as a jog and an opportunity to work up a sweat.

I was disappointed to see that the duck feeders were empty. You might expect some dilligence in keeping them filled, since this is the one stream of revenue they can count on from the frequenters of the park. But no.

By the last leg of my walk home, it was warm enough for me take off the jacket and stow it in the duffel bag, but more significantly, I was thinking how much I like this more than being on the Internet. It might be one thing if you have some real social contacts online, but I don't, not anymore. And I get too obsessed following the news and the pictures, and I take away a lot of time from my books. However, I suppose being offline would get old soon, if we did not have a choice but were simply cut off from the Internet.
