“Again, while it is a great blessing that a man no longer has to be rich in order to enjoy the masterpieces of the past, for paperbacks, first-rate color reproductions, and stereo-phonograph records have made them available to all but the very poor, this ease of access, if misused — and we do misuse it — can become a curse. We are all of us tempted to read more books, look at more pictures, listen to more music than we can possibly absorb, and the result of such gluttony is not a cultured mind but a consuming one; what it reads, looks at, listens to is immediately forgotten, leaving no more traces behind than yesterday’s newspaper.”

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth have reportedly called off their engagement.

Rumors that the 20-year-old actress and the 23-year-old Hunger Games actor had split were swirling since the beginning of the month.

“Miley and Liam are done; it’s over. She likes to party really hard and can be pretty wild. It became a problem for him,” a source shared with Page Six.

Another source added, “They have broken up before, and are broken up again now. There was drama because she suspected he had a wandering eye. And she recently tweeted a denial that he cheated.”

Yeah, her hard partying would be too much for me, too. I would have to think she is going down on every hunky thing in sight. But I'd kill for a turn or two.

Oh, yeah, I am totally down. I may have lost my taste for the Batmans and Spidermans of the world, but this new-generation of Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl totally owns me, thanks to the inimitable and soul-melting Chloe Moretz. Aside from the Internet, this is one of the very few improvements that I have seen come from this generation.

Some people seem a little excited by the new pope, because he is the first one chosen from South America. But he is still a white guy and 76 years old. He is even Italian, his parents having emigrated to Argentina. His name is Jorge Mario Bergoglio. His pope-name will be Francis.

I find it kind of depressing. I think it is time for me to tune out the Church and the Vatican from my news harvesting. It is a dead institution in my mind: a Disney Land of medieval Christianity.

I kind of wish I had remained the diehard atheist I was when I first entered the blogosphere ten years ago, but I guess I had a midlife crisis and was desperate for an alternative to death. Well, the literature is still worthwhile, even beautiful at times. As for its philosophical value, as Nietzsche said, it really is a slave-morality, which may not be entirely unfitting, because the vast majority of the people of the world are indeed little more than slaves.

We got the clothes this morning. It was a good load. I was only hurting a little on the socks and belt, but I also got lucky with finding the kind of casual around-the-house shorts I like, as well as a hoodie garment, though it is a pullover rather than a jacket. I also got a few more substantial t-shirts; the last load of t-shirts I got were so thin and cheap. I also needed new crocs/shoes, and that is taken care of as well.

I hoped that we would get something to eat, and Pop did not disappoint. In fact, it was the best dining experience that I have enjoyed since Pop and Mother first took me to Jim’s Restaurant, when they were still serving up some fine cooking. The place was called Furr’s. It’s a buffet. As for the quality of the food, you can tell that this is a solid place by the fact that the mashed potatoes are heavenly.

I ate so much that I was actually afraid that I might throw up at the table, even as I continued to stuff my mouth with the last bites of food and dessert. Having said all of that, one also pays a little more for a place at the table. It is ten dollars, and you add another two dollars if you want to drink something sweeter than water, and you also need to tip. So, we’re talking about fifteen dollars. It is worth it, but when you don’t have the money, as I do not, you don’t sit at the table and you just heat up another frozen pizza at home.

Sonofabitch, Google is going to shut down its Reader in July. They say the product is not doing very well, and they want to focus all their energies on fewer, more solid projects.

Well, fuck me!

There goes my very special porn collection. They offer us a tool to download our saved items in a file, but that obviously is not going to work for me. I don't think I can trust the other Readers that are suggested as alternatives. I only slid into using Google Reader for my porn entertainment and was happy to find no interference of any kind and was content to continue on with my little forays into perversity.

This is really going to suck. On the other hand, maybe it will help me back onto the straight and narrow path, but what a drudgery and dry life that is.

Meanwhile, I need to enjoy the next few months and be sure to fatten the collection I have on my porn blog, because pretty soon this may be all I have from these free-roaming days.
