monk111: (Flight)
I think I slept for almost eight hours straight. Seriously. No bathroom runs. I went to bed a little before ten-thirty and the next thing I know it is almost six-thirty.

When was the last time that happened? I was probably in my twenties.

I was going to remark last night that I was surprised that Ms. Walker did not come. And now I really appreciate the break. If she had come, there is no way that I would have enjoyed such a sweet sleep.

Beautiful. I think I'd rather have that than sex with a hot teenager.

Heavy-R

Pop left for a medical appointment, and I ended up blowing much of the morning at Heavy-R. And I was off to such a good start on my books and blogs too.

I also checked in on xnxx, and I am surprised and disappointed to see that they are still running that disruptive pop-up. It doesn't really bother me anymore, now that I have options, other places to go, but they have a lot of great chikan videos, and I would love to have access to them.

I am also off to a late start on making my chili. But no biggie, I guess.

“I am not a consensus politician. I am a conviction politician.”

-- Margaret Thatcher, 1925-2013

Hitler was a conviction politician, too. But maybe I should delete that. Margaret Thatcher died. I think of her as the English sister to our Reagan. The Reagan-Thatcher era really did change the political game. Conservatism became cool in America. It was not just a passing fad. It continues to shape our politics. I cannot wake up in me any real passion, though. We'll let George Will sing her praises, at least for a paragraph, and then we'll go on.

She aimed to be the moral equivalent of military trauma, shaking her nation into vigor through rigor. As stable societies mature, they resemble long-simmering stews — viscous and lumpy with organizations resistant to change and hence inimical to dynamism. Her program was sound money, laissez faire, social fluidity and upward mobility through self-reliance and other “vigorous virtues.” She is the only prime minister whose name came to denote a doctrine — Thatcherism. (“Churchillian” denotes not a political philosophy but a leadership style.) When she left office in 1990, the trade unions had been tamed by democratizing them, the political argument was about how to achieve economic growth rather than redistribute wealth, and individualism and nationalism were revitalized.

Movies

I recently got the chance to record “The Ninth Gate” again, and watching it has put me back in the mood of having a special little video library of movies that I supposedly can watch again and again without end, for those occasions when I have nothing else to watch over my meals.

I am following through on this inclination, but I will presumably grow bored of these again. Nevertheless, I like the cozy feeling of having my mindscape fully furnished with my very special comforts. At least I still have the movies from the first time that I took this mood seriously.

Though, about the boredom issue, it is one thing to see "The Ninth Gate" after two years and being able to enjoy the experience. I don't suppose seeing it every couple of months would be the same treat.

Pop gave the old kitchen TV to the neighbors. The next door neighbors. The ones who treat their dog abominably. He also gave them the mower. I guess it is as much a favor to us, being able to get rid of those things, but, well, I don't care for the idea of showering gifts on them. What they have done, and do, to that dog is a crime.

The Cats

I spend an extra few minutes out back with the cats, and the surges of love that pulse through my heart! It is divine. I suppose Miss Next was right about that. It is my best connection to that sense of wonderfulness.
