Mr. Tosches does cynicism well.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I never recycled garbage. Even if it didn’t all end up in the same landfill, I still wouldn’t do it. This world was shot, irremediably so. Recycling garbage was like flicking lint from the collar of a stiff as he lay in his coffin.

Once you are seated in front in of the computer and surfing the Internet, it is hard to stop clicking. But you really need to force yourself away, because too much time on the Net fries and dulls your brain, and it almost always feels like time wasted.

When New York ratified the Constitution, it was a grand victory for the Federalists and Alexander Hamilton

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

They apotheosized the hero of the hour, the man who had snatched victory from the antifederalist majority. So exuberant was the lionization of Alexander Hamilton that admirers wanted to rechristen the city “Hamiltoniana.” It was one of the few times in his life that Hamilton basked in the warmth of public adulation.

In this parade, there was a model ship called the “Federal Ship Hamilton”.

<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

To represent the transition from the Articles of Confederation to the Constitution, the ship changed pilots amid a deafening cannonade. The parade marked the zenith of the federalist alliance with city artisans. Hamilton never courted the masses, and never again was he to enjoy their favor to this extent. Rising high on the crest of the new Constitution, Hamilton and the federalists held undisputed sway in the city.

Oooh, 87 degrees. A few hours earlier, when the temperature was still down in the lowest 80s, I could already begin to feel the heat of humidity. It's the recent rains and the moisture in the air, I suppose. I'm not quite at the point of suffering, but if it were left to me, the air-conditioner would be running now.

I am surprised that Coco wanted to come inside the house this late in the afternoon. I imagine that she was hoping it might be more comfortable indoors, but it is only marginally so. But she is staying.

Ash has been in all day, but that is usually the case. The evenings, on the other hand are hers. I can appreciate that.
