Her first two nights were quite quiet, and you would think that I might have earned even greater respect tonight after this morning's mow, but if you thought so, then more the fool are you.

Even if she were not playing the radio, a problem has resurfaced. It may have been a little over a year ago when we dourly recognized that the ceiling fan in Pop's room was causing a bad ticking noise in my room. We dreaded this development with all our soul, but it never became a problem. Whether it is because Pop did not take to using his ceiling fan, I cannot say. All I know is that I had not been bothered.

At least I wasn't bothered until now.

I thought I scored big points in getting the air-conditioner this evening, but I lose them all with this ticking, rattling noise going on. And now we can throw in that silly radio. I cannot even move into the big room, because Pop still has to clean their mess from dinner.

I'm doing some more reading. "Wolf Hall". And getting in another round on the Internet. Wondering what will become of my sanity.

A gay comic spotlights the dissonance between the Christian message of universal love and the Christian practice of bigotry and hate.

I thought I might have seen the last of LiveJournal when I clicked onto the page this morning. It was all in Russian. Like the owners decided that it's their money, they're going to have it all their way. Their right, their prerogative. But if that is the way they are going to play it, then it is finally time for grasshopper to hop away. However, the experience seems to be a fluke, and the party rocks on, this party of one.

It is after one o'clock by the time they come out of the bedroom, and Pop comes into the big room and surprises me, "Do you still have some of that bird feed?"

I tell him that I still have an unopen bag, but why? He wants to take Ms. Walker to the pond to feed the ducks. That is sweet. He also says that he will get me a new bag.

They just want to make the most of the rest of their lives, I guess. And it seems to me that they aren't doing too bad a job at it. And they are certainly a lot more considerate toward me than is necessary. But I get stressed easily. It doesn't help that there is not a good long-term plan for me, though this problem would still exist without Ms. Walker - she just makes everything feel more iffy and anxious, especially if I cannot sleep well with her here.

The new reality, ominous and fatal, is settling in on our Julia and Winston. Busted.

“You are the dead,” repeated the iron voice.

“It was behind the picture,” breathed Julia.

“It was behind the picture,” said the voice. “Remain exactly where you are. Make no movement until you are ordered.”

It was starting, it was starting at last! They could do nothing except stand gazing into one another’s eyes. To run for life, to get out of the house before it was too late - no such thought occurred to them. Unthinkable to disobey the iron voice from the wall. There was a snap as though a catch had been turned back, and a crash of breaking glass. The picture had fallen to the floor, uncovering the telescreen behind it.

“Now they can see us,” said Julia.

“Now we can see you,” said the voice. “Stand out in the middle of the room. Stand back to back. Clasp your hands behind your heads. Do not touch one another.”

They were not touching, but it seemed to him that he could feel Julia’s body shaking. Or perhaps it was merely the shaking of his own. He could just stop his teeth from chattering, but his knees were beyond his control.

A terrorist incident at today's Boston Marathon. A couple of bombs exploded near the finish-line. Last I heard, a couple of people dead, dozens of injuries. If the authorities have any idea who is behind it and what it is about, they are keeping it to themselves. It doesn't really look like a jihad kind of thing. This was hardly a 9/11. But it's big and commands the nation's spotlight. It is an American moment.

“I don’t know what’s going to be revealed to be behind all of this mayhem. One human insect or a poisonous mass of broken sociopaths. But here’s what I DO know. If it’s one person or a HUNDRED people, that number is not even a fraction of a fraction of a fraction of a percent of the population on this planet. You watch the videos of the carnage and there are people running TOWARDS the destruction to help out. … This is a giant planet and we’re lucky to live on it but there are prices and penalties incurred for the daily miracle of existence. One of them is, every once in awhile, the wiring of a tiny sliver of the species gets snarled and they’re pointed towards darkness.

"But the vast majority stands against that darkness and, like white blood cells attacking a virus, they dilute and weaken and eventually wash away the evil doers and, more importantly, the damage they wreak. This is beyond religion or creed or nation. We would not be here if humanity were inherently evil. We’d have eaten ourselves alive long ago.”
