monk111: (Effulgent Days)
Pop went to bed early again, at about nine-thirty. I wasn't going to bother to fire up the laptop again, but I want to watch a show over lunch tomorrow, and so I wanted to knock out the New York Times tonight. I also decided to make myself a sandwich and snap open another coke - go crazy. I wanted to try to be young again, when I would have eagerly stayed up till two in the morning, just reading and writing up a storm. But I was kidding myself. It is all I can do to force myself to stay up another twenty minutes, so that I can brush my teeth again, and maybe knock out a piss. To sleep, perchance to dream!

Sammy

monk111: (Cats)
It was a reasonably decent night's sleep, that is, until about six. Then Sammy was at his worst. He wouldn't give up his yowling. I kept him locked in the big room with me, so that at least he would not bother Pop. Since I did not go to bed until about 12:30, I am feeling kind of beaten up this morning. I could thrash Sammy. The cats, especially Sammy, have done a good job of helping me expand my patience, but I am not a saint. Sleep is obviously one of my weak points; I crave it perhaps more than anything else, even more than sex.

And now the cats are dozing so sweetly. It kills me. I guess that must be nocturnal behavior. The early morning hours drive them crazy. Or mostly Sammy anyways. It is as though the last of the moonlight is beckoning especially strongly and Sammy must heed the call to go out and dance and prowl, or else make everyone else suffer with him for his failing. Coco begins to feel Sammy’s influence and will yowl a little. Ash is remarkably civilized.

I was thinking that at least they will be out tonight, but I just checked the weather, and I must be cursed. Windstorms are expected overnight, with gusts reaching 40 miles per hour. That is rather strong.

I still intend to let them out, as I am sure they will be bursting to go outside and I need some quiet. But I am not sure. I’ll probably give the cats the choice and play it by ear.

"Believe"

Watched the premiere of “Believe”. A little girl has special supernatural powers and may be the secret to saving mankind. They are on the run, good guys vs. bad guys. And, so adorable, she helps people with their life-issues along the way. The funniest thing about all this? I’m kind of hooked. Even though I would prefer a porn version in which the girl resolves men’s life problems by letting them enjoy good sex, except the girl is a little older of course. Think Gail Palmer’s “Candy” starring Carol Connors.

Nina Zero

monk111: (Flight)
In this excerpt, Nina is trapped and in the clutches of Frick and Frack. They want information and they mean to get it. Mr. Eversz demonstrates that he can paint a violent scene. In an inspired move, Eversz uses the occasion to echo the troubled family life that Nina suffered as a child under an abusive father.

“Look at that plate! That is a million-dollar plate!” Pop is talking to himself in the kitchen. I passed through a few minutes earlier, and I saw what he is talking about. It does look good. It’s only ground beef and some fries, but Pop really has developed some cooking skills, even if only at the working-class level, and it looks like something you might get at Jim’s restaurant. It looks like he tries to emulate what he sees, which is surprising to me, and all the more surprising that he can do a decent job of it.

With all the discussion of Russia’s annexation of Crimea, I am watching one of the movies about the fallout of nuclear war. A number of them have been recommended. “Threads”. YouTube has the whole movie on its servers, though of course that means that it might not be available tomorrow.
