Nietzsche's atheism is a reaction to the conception of a single, ultimate, judgmental authority who is privy to everyone's hidden and personally embarrassing secrets. His atheism also aims to redirect people's attention to their inherent freedom, the presently-existing world, and away from escapist, pain-relieving, heavenly otherworlds.

To a similar end, Nietzsche's doctrine of eternal recurrence serves to draw attention away from all worlds other than the one in which we presently live, since eternal recurrence precludes the possibility of any final escape from the present world. The doctrine also functions as a measure for judging someone's overall psychological strength and mental health, since Nietzsche believed that the doctrine of eternal recurrence was the hardest world-view to affirm. There are some differences of scholarly opinion concerning whether Nietzsche primarily intends this doctrine to describe a serious metaphysical theory, or whether he is offering merely one way to interpret the world among many others, which if adopted therapeutically as a psychologically healthy myth, can help us become stronger.

“We as black people, we got a lot of crooks.”

-- Charles Barkley

The old basketball star still likes to take up the elitist line. He has stirred up some more controversy with his statements favoring the Ferguson cops and denigrating the poor black folks of the community. Hey, he is a very wealthy man: why shouldn’t he espouse a reactionary viewpoint? Should his blackness deny him a different voice from most black people? He is obviously more rich and privileged than he is black. Obviously, we should understand that he does not have much to tell us on the other side of town. The answer we should give to him, I guess, is, “Who is we?" No doubt you athletes are often pretty criminal.

Getting up from my nap, before sitting behind the laptop, I decide to step outside to get the trash bin back and snack up the neighbor dog, before it gets dark. While I was out there, I was wondering if I should put away the rugs on the patio, but I figured that it is unlikely to rain that hard, and then I remembered: this is that "February drizzle" kind of weather. It is one of my favorite phases of our seasons. It is what we have instead of snow, I guess. Of course, these days, the cats have put a damper on my enjoyment of these cool, drizzly times. If I had my choice now, I would prefer it to be drier, so that the cats can go outside and won't be so whiny and restless.
