I have been tempted to take up Houellebecq's work. I have gotten one of my favorite quotations from him. He is a bit of a controversialist. He wrote that novel about France being taken over by Islam and sharia law. After reading his interview with Paris Review, I am feeling a bit of emotional kinship with him and am more tempted than ever. My plate is filled up now, but he is on my mind.

INTERVIEWER

How do you have the nerve to write some of the things you do?

Oh, it’s easy. I just pretend that I’m already dead.

-- Michel Houellebecq at The Paris Review (Fall 2010)
