After letting the cats out, I went back to bed in hopes of sleeping till eight, or at least seven-thirty. But, no, Pop put on his country and western music at seven sharp this morning. Well, I doubt I was going to fall back asleep anyway, but I sure wanted to try.

There's Neighbor Dog! Barking away.

We keep missing each other. This morning, for instance, when I took the trash out, he was nowhere to be seen, and I had to put the cheese back in the refrigerator again. There was one time yesterday when we were both out there together, but someone else was outside, and we had to let the opportunity pass.

I swear, there was a happy period of months that I did not have to worry about taking any cutlery to the toilet, but now I cannot remember the last day I did not have to cut up my shit for it to flush away.

Watching the grey cats cuddling on the floor, I wondered how life would have been different for them if the cats had not come into our yard, the tougher run as a feral critter eeking out a living in the urban wilds.

Then I started thinking how life would have been still quite different if Willy had not died that gruesome death, as they would have remained outdoors, never to set foot in the house.

Heh, I suppose I might still be opening up the shed for them when it comes to harsh weather, even as I fret about them not taking advantage of the opportunity.

Would we still be having multiple kitty litters every year? With Coco adding to those litters? And their female kittens growing to have litters of their own? Would we be counting on them dying off, to make life manageable?

Just wondering...

I can hear Pop giving his nose a good blowing. So it has been with my own nose. Maybe it's just the weather being hard on our sinuses. I hope we're not coming down with anything. I have to admit I am way, way overdue. I think it has been years since I have had even a simple flu or cold. Truly. I complain too much, which I suppose is understandable, being friendless and sexless and poor, but I have been enjoying more good luck than I probably deserve, and believe me, I do appreciate it.

Clipping my toenails. I caught a nail in my shoe this morning and figured we're due. I got Elvis on, and it occurs to me that I have not put on the 'Love Song' station in weeks. One reason is the holiday season, when the station is taken over for Christmas songs. However, I also listen to music a lot less. My new interest in streaming TV shows is probably taking a lot of that energy. It's all I can do to get in some Elvis. Ah, how long has it been since I listened to "Long Black Limousine"?!

Finally finished my toenails. Now it's time for lunch. So much for getting into my book. That's the way it usually seems to go. It's the little things that eat up your whole day.

Ads. There goes my paid account. Soon that annoying, nerve-grating video ad wil the popping up. Being free of that irritation is by itself worth getting a paid account. If one had money.

Well, it was fun while it lasted. A nice six months. At least I won't be senselessly checking on my stats all the time.

I just got the official notice from LJ:

You can continue to use the site, but the features of your paid account will be deactivated.

Back in the Brad days, they actually made you feel a little bad for getting a paid account, as if they were concerned that you might think you are better than the free-riders. Now, they make it sound like you are just being tolerated if you haven't put up the cash, and that your ability to continue to use the site is an unsure question: it's okay today, but who can vouch for next month?

All three cats napped with me on the bed. It's a bit crowded, but they are small, and I like it. Funny thing, I doubted I was going to doze at all, but I slept hard and for a good half-hour.

Pop returns and sees Ash and Sammy outside: "You have the cats outside, Monk? It's cold outside."

He's right. The sun never shone and the temperature settled at the mid-fifties and won't stir higher.

I point out that we can let them in at anytime.

Let the cats get their fill, if they want it, and they don't seem to want to much of that weather. I intend to keep them in tonight for sure.

Pop has a coupon for Pop-Eye's Chicken. I'd prefer Church's, and that's if Kentucky is out of the question (which it always is), but it beats Swanson.

I am probably going to need to change the grease in the fryer.

It looks like Pop-Eye's accidentally gave us three breasts. Pop thought I only took one and offered me the third, but I showed him what I had. Yet, he still offered me the third breast, and while I was sorely tempted, I thought that would be too piggish on my part, and let him have the good, meaty piece for himself. In the end, it wasn't enough for me, but I feel I did the right thing. My spirit, if not my stomach, is full.

Heather Locklear was taken to the hospital by ambulance Thursday afternoon after taking a dangerous mix of prescription drugs and alcohol ... law enforcement sources tell TMZ.

We've learned ... Locklear's sister called 911 at 2:05 PM PT fearing Heather was in danger.

The fire department, along with the Ventura County Sheriff's Department responded. Paramedics examined Heather and determined she needed to be hospitalized.

This is not the first time Locklear has had a medical emergency where 911 responded. In 2008, her doctor was concerned she may have overdosed on prescription meds. He called 911 and the operator described the situation as a "suicide attempt." It turned out to be a false alarm.

Locklear recently called off her engagement to Jack Wagner.

Getting old is a bitch. It is the ending of everything. It is watching yourself slowly die.

Sammy won't let up on his crying. I hope he gets it out of his system by bedtime. There is no question about tonight being cold. Near freezing.
