Now it's Coco who wakes me up at ten minutes till seven. She didn't want to go out at four with Ash and Sammy, and I guess the loneliness was getting to her. I would have gone back to bed and tried to get another dose of sleep, if it were not for Pop's consistency these days at playing his music at seven.

Refreshing my friends page and seeing the old familiar "Dude, WTF?" icon with a post that is similar to what Jim B. would have posted a few years ago, harking back to those old Debate days. I am surprised by how much I feel this pang of nostalgia.

While I was outside, taking in the sunlight and what greenery exists, as well as getting our mail, I see that there are a good half-dozen elephant ears trying to make a go at life, and my better angels move me to give an assist and water them. I really need to pluck that tall grass at the base before spring takes over. It's the perfect hangout for snakes, and I also suspect that it makes watering the ears harder.

I have been feeling badly adrift these couple of days. I need to remember to sit down and write more like this, working out the little things in my abandoned life, as well as to spend more quality time with my literature. I believe it does a lot to boost my mental health. I get lost, I think, spending so much time doing little e-stuff.

I suspect, for instance, I would be better off if I put Tumblr behind me, but then I come across something like this:

And how can I not indulge? The stuff of my deepest dreams.

The problem may also be the weather. Not that we are having bad weather. Quite the contrary. It's wonderfully springy, almost summery, but summery in a good way. One should be out with friends and lovers, partaking of what this world and our society has to offer.

Our third installment on Sylvia's date with Emile.

_ _ _

"I pity Warrie," he said, nodding at the other boy. "He's twenty-two, out of Amherst, and he has to work the rest of his life. When I figure ... only two more years of college."

"I know, I've always dreaded birthdays."

"You don't look as young as you are."

"I don't see," I said, "how people stand being old. Your insides all dry up. When you're young you're so self-reliant. You don't even need much religion."

"You're not by any chance a Catholic?" He asked as if it were quite unlikely.

"No. You?"

"Yes." He said it very low.

_ _ _

One could wish that Sylvia could have known what it is like to age. I am sure she would have had a lot of interesting things to say about it. It is sad to think that she only has another thirteen years left in her life, when she is now only exicted about starting college.

The e-Wars

Well, well, e-life got exciting today. The Feds shut down MegaUpload, and now Anonymous has shut down a lot of the government's and media corporation's stuff. As an ONTD commenter said, "Shit just got real, holy fuck!"

_ _ _

After a noteworthy lack of action on during the SOPA blackouts on January 18th, it seems that Anonymous is springing back into action in response to the federal takedown of MegaUpload and the subsequent arrest and likely extradition of Kim Dotcom. Just hours after the news that the U.S. federal government took down MegaUpload alongside an indictment on piracy charges, Universal.com and Justice.gov have gone down, and a prominent Anonymous affiliated Twitter account is claiming responsibility.

Knowing Anonymous, there is probably more to come both in the way of DDOS attacks and threats toward the federal government, SOPA supporters, and other organizations that have spearheaded copyright infringement lawsuits. More as the story develops.

Update: RIAA.org is now down.
Update2: and MPAA.org, copyright.gov, etc.

I don't know how smart this move is, though. It could just prompt the feds to put their iron foot down, to show who is boss. I am a little concerned about how things are going to look when the dust settles and we see what we got. The year 2012 promises to be a big one in so many ways.
monk111: (Effulgent Days)
In the old blogging days, I would be getting some serious comment-action on my post on the Anonymous hacking as well as on the Romeo post. These days, if I'm lucky, Prahlad might drop a pity-comment overnight.

All the real action is on Facebook and Twitter, I suppose. It's not like I'd get to lead the action there, but I do wonder whether I should be there to at least watch the action. For now, I am content to get what is filtered down to LiveJournal. I don't really have much energy to follow more than that.

Now I only post to help maintain my interest in life and to give my brain a little bit of exercise.

Andrew Sullivan's Dish coughed up a pop-up video ad. A first. It reminded me that since I lost my paid account on LJ, I have not seen it's old pop-up video ads. I hope it's not just a temporary reprieve for people who had a paid account. Those ads were the biggest headache about not having a paid account.
