Sleep

No cats in the house, it being a warmer night, and now I cannot sleep till seven because of me.

I shouldn't complain too much. Sleep has not been a real problem. It just hurts to be this close to a perfect sleep, only to fall short.

And, of course, Pop is not playing his country & western noise at seven sharp this morning.

fog

When I look out the window to see if it might have been rainy, and if I have been to blase in leaving the cats out this morning, I see it is wet, though I don't know if it is from rain, or if it is because of the heavy fog.

Sammy was reluctant about coming inside, but at least he does not run from me when I go to pick him up.

A Career

The philosopher Michael Oakeshott once observed that it takes several generations to make a career. Interests, habits and lore accrue in families and shape those born into them.

-- David Brooks

I sort of feel that one, seeing how I had to try to rise from a practical nullity. Well, it is not like I have been able to improve upon it. Indeed, I have even proven to be a sterile branch. At least I was able to pick up a love for literature and find consolation in that.

This captures a lot of my philosophy. Though, I suppose it is more daring on Miss Stone's part, as she has a better figure to protect. Carpe Diem!

the cats

This is the second time I have encouraged the cats to go outside, without success. I guess they prefer the indoors during the day, or at least they are not highly averse to it, unless of course it is summertime!

Chuck

I might have to get season 5, the last season, of "Chuck", making it just the first and last season. Season one has gotten me into the story, and judging by the discussio on ONTD, it looks like they are wrapping up the season in high-style.

Conscience is a sick bed. Under its filthy sheets lie all our fears. It's not conscience that prevents men from killing and raping; its consequence: fear of death, jails, God. But, really, where is He? Does He hear His name when they scream it? Do they return to Him piece by piece when I'm finished with them? The moment that God strikes me down, I'll smile, because I'll believe in Him for the first time.

-- "The Perfect Witness"

It a movie, from 2007 I think, about a serial killer. It is not "Silence of the Lambs" or "Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer", but the movie has its moments and is worth a watch.
