monk111: (Gabe)
We got the mother of all rains! That was a drought-buster. We have that little bit of flooding in the front and back that marks it. And I'm thinking I won't be watering for the rest of the year.

What we got in rain, though, I missed in sleep. For the first couple of hours, Sammy was on wail patrol, every twenty, thirty minutes, yowling and yowling. Then the storm got its second wind, and the thunder that presumably quieted Sammy took its turn in keeping me awake. Then in the early, early morning, around five and six, when there was no yowling or meowing and no thundering, I just could not fall asleep, as though it had become a bad habit that I could not break.

But I must of got in some good dozing, because I don't feel terribly tired and broken. It feels as though I must have gotten the solid minimum of four hours of sleep. Then again, maybe I will feel it at around eleven. In any case, I'm not complaining. We got the cats inside safe and secure, and we got our rain, and I still have the better part of my sanity.

Lorie came today. Only for about an hour. But it is still a surprise. I thought we might have seen the last of her in these pages. I almost forgot what pseudonym I adopted for her.

When Pop said she was coming, I was afraid that she would be staying the night, because I figured she would want to be more amenable in light of the competition with Ms. Walker. Pop is not rich and does not have that much largesse to spread around. But I worry too much.

Gabe says, "The consequences of having a dirty little mind."

Monk says, "Well, you should know about dirty minds."

She sticks her tongue out, flicking it, "You don't know the half of it, hah!"
